Updated: Sep 10

Miami is a melting pot of cultures and cuisine, which means that there's no shortage of great food to try. From Cuban to French to Japanese, Miami has it all!

Events like the South Beach Wine & Food Festival (SOBEWFF®) have put Miami on the map as a culinary travel destination. In the last 20 years since SOBEWFF began, the annual event has helped to elevate Miami’s food scene, drawing the world’s most famous chefs.

While you’re visiting Miami, you’ll want to eat like a local. And order like a local.

In this article we'll take you on a culinary tour through the different types of cuisine available in Miami – focusing on our top 5 foolproof food spots! We'll show you some popular restaurants around town and provide recommendations for what dishes are worth trying when you visit one of these spots. This list includes everything you need, from late night dining spots to great breakfast options. We hope this guide will help you find something new and delicious for your next meal out!

Casa Tua

You know that feeling when you walk into a restaurant and it feels like home? That's Casa Tua. This small family-owned restaurant offers a modern take on traditional Italian cuisine. There’s an authentic feel that will remind you of your grandma's kitchen.

Casa Tua has all the classics: lasagna, spaghetti and meatballs, eggplant parmesan - but also some new dishes to try like Chicken Francese or Potato Gnocchi in Bolognese sauce!

Their pasta sauces are made from scratch every day using only the best ingredients in their own homemade tomato sauce, as well as imported olive oil and Parmesan cheese.

You can't go wrong with their pizza either! With over 25 different choices including vegan options, Casa Tua has something for everyone. This legendary date night spot has locations in Miami, South Beach, Brickell.

We recommend trying their Ossobuco or Truffle Risotto if you are looking for an exquisite dining experience!

SuViche

Think Peruvian and Japanese cuisine aren’t the perfect pairing? Well then, head to SuViche and prepare to delight your taste buds.

SuViche is an amazing place to spend your evening. You can head over to the Miami Beach location for happy hour from 5-7pm. Enjoy delicious drinks like their Piña Coladas with fresh fruit or Sangria on tap. They also have live music!

The Brickell location offers wine flights as well as handcrafted cocktails that will be sure to please any palette. And if you want some of the best izakaya in town, hit up the Wynwood hotspot where they offer authentic Japanese flavors using local ingredients.

This hotspot has locations in Miami Beach, Wynwood and Brickell. Try the Bang-Bang Shrimp, Chupe and any ceviche or sushi roll!

Sanguich De Miami

This walk-up window winner specializes in authentic Cuban sandwiches and milkshakes. Creamy shakes and the very best pan con bistec we've ever had.

The food is delicious, authentic and reasonably priced.

We were especially impressed by the fried plantains and dipping sauces that are included with your meal - not to mention their delectable shakes! Sanguich De Miami is definitely worth a visit if you want an amazing lunch or dinner experience without all the hassle of parking downtown. Just make sure to call ahead for take out because there's only one window on site.

It can get pretty backed up during peak hours… But trust us when we say it's worth it!

Shorty’s Bar-B-Q

Shorty's makes it easy to enjoy the authentic taste of down-home barbeque without driving too far from home. With four locations in South Miami, West Miami, Davie and Doral, you're never more than a few minutes away from all your favorite classic American BBQ dishes.

Trust us when we say you won't be disappointed by what they have on offer! Whether you've been craving some succulent ribs or an incredible barbecue sandwich for weeks now - this is where it all starts to make sense. Incredible tangy sauces and butter-drenched corn on the cob are just some of the mouth-watering options.

Shorty’s may not be fancy. But it’s definitely delicious. Come hungry and leave well-fed.
